Deploying access networks requires a huge investment, being responsible for 50% of all investments in the global ICT sector(!). Hence, taking optimal investment decisions is if high importance. The optimal choice among the competing network technologies is derived from geographic characteristics of the service area, as well as requirements for the provided services, and market conditions. Techno-economic evaluation supports comparison of these network technologies, considering not only the technical quality, but also the economic viability at the same time.
During the techno-economic evaluation, knowledge about the future network infrastructure is fundamental. Therefore the network planning methods were applied also for the evaluation the cost models, technical and also the business case analysis is based on the optimized network infrastructure.
